2026 Holiday Shipping Deadlines: When to Mail Gifts for Hanukkah and Christmas |
Key USPS, UPS and FedEx mailing dates, plus an earlier timetable for Hanukkah gifts. |

The holidays have a way of sneaking up on us, especially when a gift needs to travel farther than across town. In 2026, Hanukkah begins December 4, more than three weeks before Christmas. That makes early November a good time to check your gift list, order anything that needs shipping, and mark a few dates on the calendar.
The dates below separate official 2026 carrier recommendations from extra cautious planning targets. Shipping times vary by destination, service, weather and drop-off time. None of the dates should be treated as a guaranteed delivery promise.
Hanukkah comes early this year
Hanukkah begins at sundown on Friday, December 4, 2026, and concludes after nightfall on Saturday, December 12. If a package is meant to arrive before the first evening, aim for delivery no later than Thursday, December 3. The holiday dates are confirmed by Chabad's 2026 Hanukkah calendar.
Suggested planning dates for gifts needed by December 3: These are conservative recommendations from The Simi Signal, not published Hanukkah cutoffs from USPS, UPS or FedEx.
Thanksgiving falls on Thursday, November 26. Shipping schedules around the holiday can affect transit, so check your service's delivery estimate before purchasing a label. For gifts meant for a later night of Hanukkah, you may have more time, but tell the sender which date matters.
Christmas shipping deadlines: USPS
The U.S. Postal Service has released recommended 2026 mailing dates for expected delivery before December 25 to addresses in the contiguous 48 states. These are official USPS recommendations, not guarantees.
For Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico and U.S. territories, USPS recommends December 16 for Ground Advantage and provides different guidance for military and international destinations. Consult the USPS 2026 Holiday Shipping Deadlines for the full schedule and exceptions.
Christmas shipping deadlines: UPS
UPS has published the following recommended last shipping dates for delivery on Thursday, December 24 within the United States:
UPS notes that some ground and air shipments may take longer during the busy season, and shipments to certain destinations may require earlier dates. Its 2026 year-end holiday schedule links to the official schedule, while UPS Calculate Time and Cost provides route-specific delivery estimates.
Christmas shipping deadlines: FedEx
FedEx's official 2026 holiday chart also targets delivery by December 24. It provides the following last shipping dates for select domestic services:
FedEx Ground Economy has an earlier cutoff in the published chart, so do not assume it follows ordinary Ground schedules. View FedEx's 2026 last-days-to-ship chart or start at its holiday shipping information page before sending a package.
What about gifts going overseas or to military addresses?
International shipments, customs processing, and mail headed to APO, FPO or DPO addresses need additional planning. The deadlines can be much earlier than domestic schedules. USPS provides separate military and international tables on its holiday deadlines page. UPS and FedEx provide destination-specific estimates and service conditions on their official sites.
If you are sending to family in another country, check the exact destination and service rather than relying on a general U.S. cutoff. Customs clearance is not fully within a carrier's control.
Five ways to avoid a last-minute shipping scramble
The most useful deadline is your own
The carrier dates are a helpful starting point, but the best approach is to work backward from when a gift needs to arrive and confirm the shipment's exact delivery estimate. If it matters that a package arrives on time, choose an earlier mailing date whenever you can.
Checked November 3, 2026. Carrier schedules may change. These dates describe recommended mailing or shipping times, not guaranteed delivery. Confirm current service availability and timing directly with the carrier before sending.
