We all have that one project around the house. Maybe it's refreshing the backyard, organizing the garage, updating a tired room, or improving the landscaping.

The hardest part is often figuring out where to start, what it might cost, and how much you can realistically accomplish.

This week, put AI to work as your personal home project planner.

Step 1: Show AI What You're Working With

Take a photo of the room, yard, or space you want to improve and upload it to ChatGPT. Or simply describe the area and what you'd like to change.

Include any details that matter, such as your budget, available time, and whether you prefer doing projects yourself or hiring help.

Step 2: Try This Prompt

Copy and paste:

"Act as my home improvement planning assistant. I want to improve [describe your room, yard, or project].

My goal is [what you'd like to accomplish].

Create three improvement options:

  1. Budget-friendly: Under $100
  2. Moderate makeover: Under $500
  3. Bigger project: Over $500

For each option, suggest improvements, estimated costs, supplies needed, and whether I can do the work myself.

Then create a realistic 30-day action plan, broken into manageable weekly tasks. Prioritize projects that will make the biggest difference for the money."

Step 3: Ask AI to Double-Check Your Plan

Before heading to the store or hiring someone, ask:

"Review this plan. What am I overlooking? Are there hidden costs, safety concerns, seasonal considerations, or steps I should complete before starting?"

AI might remind you about permits, additional materials, preparation work, or a better order for completing tasks.

Remember, AI's costs are estimates. Verify prices, measurements, permit requirements, and safety recommendations before starting.

🌟 Bonus: See It Before You Start!

Here's where AI gets really fun.

Upload a photo of your space and ask:

"Show me what this space could look like after completing the improvements in my $500 budget plan. Keep the existing layout and major features."

You may be able to visualize your ideas before spending a dollar!

This Week's AI Takeaway

You don't need a big budget or a professional designer to start improving your home.

Sometimes all you need is a fresh perspective, a realistic plan, and a little help figuring out where to begin.

✅Plan it. Check it. Then make it happen.✅

Anyone tried it for a rental apartment? Wondering if it would suggest changes that are actually allowed.

Hope it actually warns about permit stuff, because I got burned on that last summer.

Love this! Planning my tiny patio makeover already. Maybe I can stop just pinning ideas and do something now.

I still think nothing beats old-school graph paper, but cool that tech can help now too.
