Simi Valley's Carson Mumford Breaks Through in Pro Motocross
Local rider delivers some of the best results of his professional career before a wrist injury cuts his breakout summer short.
Simi Valley has one of its own making noise on the national motocross circuit.
Carson Mumford, a Simi Valley native competing for AEO Powersports KTM, has been enjoying one of the strongest stretches of his professional racing career in the 2026 AMA Pro Motocross Championship.
The 24-year-old turned professional in 2019, but this summer has marked an important step forward. At the Spring Creek National in Minnesota on July 18, Mumford broke through with his first career Pro Motocross moto podium, finishing third in the second 250-class moto. Combined with an 11th-place finish in the first moto, the result gave him fifth overall for the day.
Then came an important question: Could he do it again?
A week later at Washougal MX Park in Washington, Mumford answered with one of his strongest performances yet.
After getting caught up near the back of the field and finding himself around 19th early in the first moto, Mumford worked his way through the pack to finish fifth. He followed that with a fourth-place finish in Moto 2, earning fourth overall at the Washougal National.
The performances established Mumford as one of the hottest riders in the 250 class during the second half of the summer. His impressive stretch included moto finishes of third, fifth, fourth, third, fourth and fourth.
Unfortunately, motocross can change quickly.
During the opening lap of the second moto at Budds Creek on August 22, Mumford collided with another rider and crashed. His AEO Powersports KTM team later confirmed that he dislocated his wrist, an injury that will require surgery and sideline him heading into the SuperMotocross playoffs.
Despite the disappointing ending to his summer run, Mumford remains seventh in the 2026 250MX championship standings.
And there is reason for Simi Valley race fans to keep following his career.
In July, Mumford signed an extension with AEO Powersports KTM that will keep him with the team for the 2027 SuperMotocross season.
For a rider whose professional career has included its share of ups and downs, this summer showed that Mumford can run near the front with some of the best 250 riders in the country.
We'll be rooting for a successful surgery, a speedy recovery, and another strong season from Simi Valley's own Carson Mumford in 2027. |
