On a bright April morning at Simi Valley Civic Center Park, 400 participants laced up their running shoes for a cause that goes far beyond the finish line. GiGi's Playhouse Simi Valley hosted its annual 5K fundraiser—the organization's largest event of the year—and the community showed up in force.

GiGi's Playhouse is the only network of Down syndrome achievement centers in the world, and the Simi Valley location has become a beacon of hope, education, and support for families throughout the region. The annual 5K isn't just a race; it's a celebration of potential, possibility, and the power of community inclusion.

Participants of all ages and abilities joined the event, from competitive runners to families walking together, children in strollers to seniors taking a leisurely pace. The atmosphere was electric with encouragement, as volunteers cheered on every participant who crossed the finish line.

"Events like this show what our community is really about," said one participant. "It's about showing up for each other, celebrating our differences, and making sure everyone has the opportunity to thrive."

The funds raised through the 5K support GiGi's Playhouse's free educational and therapeutic programs, which serve individuals with Down syndrome from birth through adulthood. These programs include literacy tutoring, speech therapy, career development, and social activities—all provided at no cost to families.

For Simi Valley, the success of the 5K represents more than just a well-attended fundraiser. It demonstrates the community's commitment to inclusion, accessibility, and ensuring that every resident has the resources they need to reach their full potential.

GiGi's Playhouse Simi Valley is located at 2955 Cochran Street, Suite A. To learn more about programs, volunteer opportunities, or upcoming events, visit gigisplayhouse.org/simi-valley.
