Major Highway 101 Improvements Move Into Public Review |
Transportation officials are studying a 27-mile stretch of Highway 101 |

Ventura County transportation officials are studying a 27-mile stretch of Highway 101 as congestion is projected to worsen significantly in the years ahead.
The Ventura County Transportation Commission and Caltrans are moving forward with the Our Future 101 project, a long-term effort to improve traffic flow and reliability along Highway 101 between State Route 23 in Thousand Oaks and State Route 33 in Ventura.
The corridor currently experiences heavy morning and afternoon congestion, with VCTC estimating about 19,800 hours of delay each day. By 2040, daily delay is projected to rise by 54% to approximately 30,500 hours.
The project is evaluating several options, including a no-build alternative and plans that would add an HOV/Express Bus lane in each direction, along with possible ramp, merge and operational improvements. The goals include improving trip reliability, reducing dangerous merges, supporting transit and accommodating future traffic demand.
A major milestone arrives September 30, 2026, when the Draft Environmental Impact Report/Environmental Assessment is scheduled for release. The public comment period will remain open through December 7, with five public hearings planned in November.
The project is still in the environmental review and planning phase, so a final design has not yet been selected.

As long as they protect the environment by the coast, I'm in favor. Don't want more pollution.
Express bus lanes could be cool if there’s more buses. Right now, options are slim.
Please don't take forever to pick a plan. We need less traffic NOW.
I'll be watching for those public hearings in November. Good they want feedback.
That morning rush is already awful. 30,000 hours of delay sounds wild.
Not sure another study will change much. Feels like they always promise big.
Adding HOV lanes would help. Carpooling is the way to go, imo.
Hope they actually fix the bottleneck by Seaward. That's where I always get stuck.
