A three-hour outage was a good reminder that a little preparation can make a big difference when the lights go out.

If your lights went out Sunday night, you weren't alone.

Parts of Simi Valley experienced a power outage on August 16, with some residents, including our household, without electricity for roughly three hours.

While a final customer count for the outage isn't readily available from Southern California Edison, it was one of multiple outages reported in Simi Valley during the week.

Three hours without power was a pretty good reminder of how dependent we are on it.

  •  phones
  •  Wi-Fi
  • lights
  • laptops
  • ... everything else.

Be Ready for the Next Outage

A little preparation can make a power outage much easier to manage.

We put together a simple Power Outage Preparedness Checklist with the essentials to have on hand before the lights go out again.

And while you’re checking your supplies, there’s one item we were especially glad to have this week… a portable power station.

This week's unplanned outage caught us with a few devices running low on power, and our portable power station helped keep us connected. It wasn't enough of an emergency to fire up the generator, but it was exactly the kind of situation where having a smaller portable power source came in handy.
