California Lutheran University’s Fifty and Better (FAB) program is offering a new fall lineup for adults 50 and older who want to keep learning—without grades, tests or traditional university enrollment.

Running through Nov. 19, the program includes eight multi-week courses, six individual lectures, fitness and wellness classes, a beginner watercolor course, and off-campus excursions. Participants can attend many offerings online through Zoom, while select classes are also available in person at Cal Lutheran’s Thousand Oaks campus.

This fall’s topics range widely, including the murder of Rasputin, the collapse of Bronze Age civilizations, Great Depression-era murals, Dada and Surrealism, the careers of music executives Clive Davis and Don Kirshner, the ancient Maya, the Cold War and Russian expansion.

Shorter lectures cover subjects such as LACMA, the history of ice cream, music appreciation and Korean history. In-person attendees at the ice cream lecture can even take part in a tasting.

The program also extends beyond the classroom with excursions to LACMA and NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, although some tours and activity classes currently have waitlists.

Fitness offerings include Zumba Gold, Qigong, Tai Chi and yoga, while aspiring artists can enroll in a six-week beginner watercolor course.

Individual four-week courses start at $40, three-week courses at $30 and lectures at $12, with discounted bundles also available.

Registration remains open for many sessions. For the complete schedule and registration information, visit Cal Lutheran’s Fifty and Better program website.
