Boot Stomping Benefit Concert

This summer, the rhythm of country music meets the heart of community giving.

The Hot Summer Night concert joins forces with the OakHeart Country Music Festival to raise funds for the Old Boney Mountain Foundation for Kids, a local nonprofit dedicated to helping youth grow through gratitude, kindness, and service.

Held at Conejo Creek Park South in Thousand Oaks, OakHeart brings together top country artists — Tyler Hubbard, Uncle Kracker, Presley Tennant, The Highwaymen Show, and Wild the River — for a day of unforgettable performances, food, and fun.

But beyond the music and the spice, this event fuels something bigger:

  • Scholarships for local students

  • Leadership and life‑skills programs

  • Youth camps and community service projects

  •
  • Every ticket and donation helps the Foundation reach its $40,000 Gratitude Challenge goal, with the founder matching contributions up to $10,000.

  •

So grab your boots, bring your friends, and join the celebration that’s turning heat into hope for kids across Ventura County.

Students, educators, and community leaders were recognized by the Rancho Simi Recreation and Park District for their contributions to environmental stewardship, education, and sustainability on May 6.

Among the honorees was Moorpark College’s Circle K International, a group that organizes volunteer efforts focused on trail restoration and cleanup across the region.

Another recipient, Isaac Trejo, led a native plant restoration project at Chumash Park, aiming to reintroduce native vegetation and remove invasive species.

Hailey Blough, a student at Royal High School, organized a group to clear invasive weeds at Corriganville Park during spring break.

Honorees also included Team Crayfish of Oak Park and Ijtsi Murillo, a site director promoting outdoor education for youth.

The awards celebrate the efforts of individuals and groups in fostering a culture of environmental care in the Simi Valley community, encouraging the next generation to continue this important work.

The city of Simi Valley is considering the possibility of taking over the management of the public library from Ventura County due to dissatisfaction with services.

Discussions have been ongoing about the potential benefits and challenges of this transition, including the impact it could have on library staff.

City officials are exploring the feasibility of such a move and evaluating the potential costs and benefits to the community.

The city council has sought input from residents and library patrons to better understand their needs and preferences.

While no final decision has been made, the city is actively exploring the idea of a public library takeover as a means of improving services and better serving the community.

The new space is dog-friendly and offers almost 3,000 square feet for wine tastings, events, and entertainment.

The venue features a professional audio/visual system, stage lighting, and a performance stage. During the reopening weekend, there will be live music performances by local bands, including Country Vision Band, Damaged Goods, and Brittney and the BSides.

The event will also include wine releases, food from local restaurants, dog-related activities, raffle prizes, and partnerships with small businesses.

Proceeds from the event will support nonprofit dog rescue organizations, as Nectar of the Dogs Wine has donated over $30,000 to rescue-related causes since opening.
