Trivia Question❓

Which Simi Valley landmark was once a filming location for both Westerns and early sci‑fi productions?

Fry-Day Favorites: Celebrating National French Fry Day

Crispy, salty, hot, and impossible to ignore—French fries deserve their own celebration.

National French Fry Day lands on the second Friday in July, giving us all a perfectly good excuse to order a basket, share a plate, or sneak a few from someone else’s meal.

Despite the name, the true origin of the French fry is still up for debate.

France and Belgium both claim a connection to the beloved fried potato. One popular story says Belgian villagers began frying potato strips when winter weather made it harder to catch fish. France also helped turn fried potatoes into a popular street food, and the name “French fries” stuck in America.

Wherever they began, fries have clearly found a permanent home on menus everywhere.

Of course, there is no single right way to enjoy them.

Some people are loyal to thin and crispy shoestring fries. Others prefer thick steak fries, waffle fries, curly fries, crinkle cuts, sweet potato fries, or a loaded basket topped with cheese, chili, bacon, or ranch.

The real question is the dip: ketchup, ranch, barbecue sauce, mustart, fry sauce, gravy, aioli, or no dip at all?

Simi Signal Fry-Day Question:

  • What is your favorite kind of fry?
  • What do you like to top or dip your fries with?
  • where do you go locally when the craving hits?

City Council Unanimously Approves $283 Million Budget

The Simi Valley City Council officially adopted its final$283 million Annual Budget and Five-Year Capital Improvement Programfor Fiscal Year 2026-27.

Following extensive public review sessions designed to align municipal spending directly with resident priorities, the final blueprint secures critical funding for localized public safety, emergency services, and community care initiatives.

A major cornerstone of the package includes significant allocations aimed at maintaining and updating the city’s massive physical layout including 346 miles of streets

  • 134 miles of storm drains, and 586 miles of sidewalks.

By pairing long-term infrastructure forecasting with strict fiscal safeguards, city officials state the balanced budget ensures Simi Valley’s core public safety teams remain fully equipped while insulating local community services against broader economic volatility.

Simi Valley Named in USHL West Coast Expansion Plans

Simi Valley has been named as one of six markets targeted for a new United States Hockey League team as the premier junior hockey league expands to the West Coast.

The USHL announced June 24 that Leorjay Sports is the prospective ownership partner for Simi Valley.

League officials and incoming owners will begin work this summer on key details including a venue, lease arrangements, and team branding, with a target launch for the 2027–28 season.

The USHL is the nation’s only Tier-I junior hockey league and serves as a major development path for players pursuing NCAA Division I and professional hockey. The expansion could create a new opportunity for local hockey fans and young athletes to connect with the sport at a high level.
